Heh - another prime quote from Mr innuendo himself, the Naked Chef -
"You just want little knobs - put 'em everywhere."

Bah! DSL provider was playing up at the weekend *again*. I might have to try and get 4 days of my subscription fee paid back as that's been the amount of downtime this month!
I'l post a longer update this evening.

Gah! Hung over.
I've got some friends coming over this evening, so I need to get my ass down the shops and buy some food then get back and try and tidy up a little while preparing food.
It sounds like an impossible mission at this point in time!

What I forgot to mention yesterday is that I think I've found a temporary step on the path to a better computer :-/
I decided after getting my credit application turned down I thought that perhaps I should do an upgrade on my machine to get a little extra juice out of it and to buy time to save up (agh!) for a new machine.
So last night I bid on an AMD 350Mhz processor (as opposed to the 200 I have now) complete with motherboard and 64Mb RAM. That should ease up some of the bottleneck problems I'm getting at the moment and make using my machine a little more pleasurable for a while. I've also never done a hardware upgrade like that, so it should be quite fun too. The price was pretty reasonable, about 50 quid for the lot - cheaper than the cost of buying 64Mb of EDO RAM on it's own!
So I'm just waiting for the kit to come in the post (C.O.D.) and then I'll have the fun of doing the installation (all my techie friends can expect panicked phonecalls).

A nice evening! Lotta and I met up after work and swam our usual kilometer together. (When I say together, I mean like, "In the same pool". Lotta usually finishes over 100m ahead of me :-)
We had decided to go out after and I suggested that we go to Liseberg (the amusement park in the middle of Gothenburg)! Hurrah! What a great idea. We had a bite to eat at their Tyrolean themed restaurant and then went straight on the rollercoaster! Wooohooo! We like rollercoasters :-)
After trying to win me a giant cuddly Pokemon (we failed) we then decided it was dodgems time. Lotta and I have been discussing for years that when we are filthy rich we're going to have our own dodgems (in the back garden, near the pool, the bar, the pinball hall and the boat mooring).
Unfortunately I had lost a bet on how long we would have to stand in the queue for the rollercoaster, so I then had to buy Lotta popcorn (if it had been nearer 15 minutes instead of nearer 30 minutes, she would have had to buy me candyfloss!).
Finally we went to see the magician Karl Einar Häckner who is Sweden's "alternative comedy magician" - but I didn't think much of him. We saw him start in on a piece which to be honest was not much more than a pretty offensive stereotype of a sort of mystical arabic magician. For someone who's pretty talented he could certainly try harder.
Then we went home.
The end!

Another sad piece of news - my favourite technology newsletter RCFoC (The Rapidly Changing Face of Computing) has come to an end! The guy behind it - Jeffrey Harrow - is leaving his employer Compaq and RCFoC will be closing.
He's apparently been writing the journal since 1986, though it has been available publicly since 1996, which was mor or less when I started reading it. People who know me will know that I often send out little tidbits of information I have gleaned from the list. I have also been lucky enough to have contributed in my own small way to the newsletter - here's a comment I sent in back when WapWarp was in its infancy-
Wap thoughts.
There is some hope that he will keep the newsletter going privately, there's even a questionnaire on his own website. I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

Waaaaaaaaaahhh!
I haven't been in Sweden long enough to get the credit I needed to buy my computer :-( I'll have to look into other ways of sorting out the loan.
It's not easy sometimes being a foreigner.

It's not often I post just plain old links to news stories - but this one has had me alternately laughing and cringing for the last 10 minutes!
Ow!
Suffice to say I'd probably best visit a doctor some time myself...

Hurrah! My new book "Cascading Style Sheets" from O'Reilly Press came through. Now I can put the finishing touches to the styles for CooksTour and Clogger.
