Happy New Year!
We're currently 3 days into 2001 and I don't see any sign of consumer space travel to orbiting space stations, let alone computers intelligent enough to purposely threaten your life!
The party was a great success! About 25 people showed up in total (I think!) and at midnight we had about 15 people on the balcony, drinking champagne and oohing and aahing at the incredible panorama of fireworks. God I wish I had a video camera to record that! Monday was spent on the sofa watching Ivanhoe (It's played EVERY New Years day here in Sweden), making Monty Python references and drinking copious amounts of orange drinks! It was a very pleasant day all in all :-)
Fortunately I wasn't back at work the next day as I had remembered to book a day's holiday. Aaaah! A chance to relax with my new copy of Zelda Ocarina of Time (thanks mum!) and clean the flat after the party - which was just as well as my landlord popped around in the evening to pick up some things. Zelda seems like it's going to suck up copious amounts of my free time, which is a Good Thing (tm) as I've spent such a horrendous amount of money over the holiday period that I'm left with like 50 quid for the rest of the month :-(
Anyway, it's been a fun time and now I'm looking forward to getting some serious developing done at work. We've recently hired an old workmate of mine to join me and we're going to develop the site internally. That spells lots of fun with ASP :-) I'm really looking forward to finally getting some major changes underway and Oskar is a great person to be working with on the project.
Finally, I haven't really though too much about the year's changeover. The last few years have been pretty momentous for me and I think I'm looking forward to what's hopefully a calmer 2001. (Chance would be a fine thing!) I guess the main things I'm hoping for at the moment is that I can finally get a grip on my financial situation (despite earning well, I always seem to blast through it all) and that my relationship with Lotta continues to deepen and improve as it has been doing the last 6 months or so. More minor achievements would be developing a more regular meditation routine, exercising occasionally, getting to Cyprus (been intending to visit my sis and my grandma there for a few years now) and continuiing to improve my Swedish. I'd also like to catch up with friends from the UK a little more often.
Well I hope that you all have a good 2001 and I'll be sure to keep letting you know how mine is going :-)

Yesterday's snow enthusiasm was unfortunately misplaced. Gothenburg's climate has done its usual (as I'm learning) trick and turned snow into slush overnight :-( Deep, icky slush too!
As for the good news, I managed to find a copy of the Lolita Storm album last night. Heh!

Snow level's about 1cm and the prognosis is looking good for continued snow until the weekend!

Well we only missed a white christmas by a few days then! We woke up today to a crispy thin crust of white over Gothenburg. It's too early to tell whether it's gonna stay or just melt away, but it's still pretty cold and it's still snowing (though very lightly). If it *does* continue then I'm gonna be a happy bunny having a long weekend with easy access to sledging hills :-) (I only need to go about 10 minutes to be in the middle of one of Gothenburg's best parks). I still haven't had a chance to try out the "sledge" I bought two years ago.

BIG BIG chunky snowflakes - hurrah!

Christmas was great! Lots of food, lots of pressies and a nice chance to spend a lot of time with Lotta and her family and just unwind. Nice!
Yesterday was pretty cool as well. Lotta and I went for a long walk and ended up "skating" on a frozen lake. OK, it wasn't a huge lake, it's in the big park here in Gothenburg, but it was frozen enough that there were people with proper ice skates out on it. If the weather continues to be as cold as it is, I'm considering buying a cheap pair of skates to go out for a proper bit of outdoor skating at the weekend. At least it's not raing any more. As I said to Lotta, this is part of the reason one moves to a country like Sweden :-)
We're expecting some snow today, but it hasn't come yet and it's supposed to be followed by rain - we'll have to see what happens.
In other news, I've started work on a revamp of the Hotel Bastardos site - it's coming along well. I'm back at work for a few days until New Year. Talking of which, I'm gonna be having a big New Year's party with an open house so that all my friends can pop by. If you're reading this and are likely to be in Gothenburg on New Year's Eve, let me know and I'll tell you where to be! Hmmm - perhaps I should sort out a webcam for the party! I'll have to get in touch with some webcamming friends and see what's required.

I'm off for me Christmas hols now - don't wait up!
Actually, I'll be dragging the laptop with me to Lotta's parents' so I'll prolly be online at some point. Whether I get to make any blog updates or not is a whole other matter. I'm kinda planning on doing a site revamp at some point though... watch this space!
- oh and Merry Christmas everybody (said in a Mr Hanky voice!)

Blurgh!
I feel bleary today! There's no setting for Bleary on my i-mood button :-(
We celebrated Lotta's (and Max's) birthday with lots of bubbly last night. Then they went out for a night on the town, while I sensible went home, what with having work today and all. I'm not properly hung-over, just tired and groggy. Blurgh! It was a nice evening though and worth today's suffering :-)
I'm looking forward to the long weekend that is known as christmas though. The flat is looking nice with crimble tree and such. I received a HUGE present from my sister and her BF from Cyprus the other day. Thanks guys :-) I'll probably be able to continue updating my blog during christmas as I'm pretty sure I'll drag the laptop along with me to Lotta's parents. Don't forget you non-Swedes, that over here we celebrate a day early (yup - I think it's weird too!), so Christmas Day for you guys will be more like Boxing Day for me :-)
Anyhoo if you don't hear from me in the meantime, have a great crimbletide and let's look forward to the New Year.

Quote of the day comes from Microsoft Linux - the premier linux distro "This is horseshit. Horseshit, horseshit, horseshit. And for those of you who don't know what that means, it's the shit that comes from a horse!"

Happy birthday Lotta! (You can wish her Happy Birthday too!
I was woken at 1:30 this morning by a fire engine outside the bedroom window! I was pretty worried when I looked out of the window and saw what appeared to be flames reflected in the window of the flat over the road! I was mistaken though, it was the flat over the road itself that was on fire.
Fortunately there didn't appear to be anyone injured and while I was worried about the people in the surrounding flats, they were quite OK, if somewhat shaken! It wasn't a big fire and was soon put out, but the process kept me awake for quite a while so I'm a little the worse for wear today.
