What's happening in the skies over Gothenburg?

If you've ever wondered what it is like to work in web design, here is the ULTIMATE link to nightmare stories of the "World's Dummest Clients". Warning, it's a BIG page and takes a while to load - but it's worth it! I promise you, working in web design I've heard so many similar things! You quite simply would not believe how dumb some people can be!

OH MY GOD!
He killed WapWarp!
YOU BASTARD!!!!

Yup, today I did the unthinkable - while making a small update to the description of one entry in the WapWarp database, I accidentally applied the change to every entry on the site! It's one of those mistakes where a sudden sinking feeling hits you in the pit of he stomach as you realise that your last backup was a month old and that you have just lost a whole month's worth of work.

The site was down for a few hours while I figured out what to do (and had a Burger King lunch :-). Finally, I restored from the backup I have and put a message on the site warning that changes made since October 22 have probably been lost.

I do of course have a copy of the site as it was seconds after I made the mistake, so what I'm planning to do is go through it by hand this evening and restore what I can to the state it was in. It means I'm going to have to be somewhat creative with people's site descriptions, but they can mail me changes later if they wish.

Note to self: Write a script to automatically back-up the database every night!

After three evenings of cleaning (and Lotta has done two whole days as well!) the flat was finally clean and this morning it was passed for inspection without any problems. The final things have been moved to the new flat.

I'm out! Finally I can leave behind me the flat that two years ago was going to be a temporary place!

Saturday is arranged as the day I get to actually start living at the new place :-) 13.30 I get the final sets of keys and can start the much more enjoyable part of the moving process - setting up the new flat :-) I'm going to take some photos as soon as I can to set up on the site so you can all see the wonderful view and how nice the flat itself is. The next couple of evenings are going to be spent relaxing after the hellish few days cleaning I've had. (I did about 10 hours and Lotta must have done 13-14 hours!).

Woohoo! I moved :-)

Actually, I have moved all of my belongings, which are now sitting in a huge pile in "the office" at the new flat. The move was a lot easier than the last move I did, thanks to my wonderful group of helpers and also thanks to the lift at the new flat :-)

Today I ache from head to toe, my arms are covered in bruises and I'm not looking forward to spending the next few evenings cleaning the empty flat. But I am happy that my things are moved, even if I myself won't be living at the flat until the coming Saturday. In the meantime I'm staying with Lotta - who is also being a fantastic help and taking care of much of the cleaning work during the days.

I'm looking forward to getting the transition period over and done with and actually moving in :-)

(sung to the tune of "I'm off to see the wizard"...)

I'm off to clean the kitchen
The wonderful kitchen that was...

Lotta and I are going to a dinner party this evening - which will be nice.

Work was fun today. We had a monthly meeting where I got to present the prototype of a new internal tool I'm working on. It got a great reception, so I'm feeling fabulous as my iMood indicator is showing (if you're reading this soon after it's posted!).

My cuddly stuffed Tux sits beside my desk and watches my every move at work. Today I think I saw a playmate to keep him company during the long lonely nights when I'm at home.

As a follow-up to the Tux post below, I found a nifty little wishlist function on ThinkGeek earlier. Now you all know what I want for Christmas :-)
