Tuesday bloody Tuesday...

Actually it's being quite a nice Tuesday. Lotta comes home from her wanderings today, Freddie Wadling is playing a free concert in Göteborg tonight and I posted some images from this year's Roskilde to the Hotel Bastardos site last night (look in the gallery!).

It looks like I didn't get the flat I was after - I didn't even get rung back, which I thought was pretty rude. So I'll be following through with the original plan and giving my notice at the end of this month.

The best news of all is that my cold seems to be almost gone. Still a bit sniffly, but for the first time, I'm not really feeling like I'm in the depths of a cold. Hurrah!

Some interesting nws - I'm going to see a flat tomorrow in the perfect area of town! I'm not getting my hopes up, as the flat is moderately expensive and only available for a year, but it's the first flat I've actually had a chance to get to see since I started looking some time ago. If this one *doesn't* come up, my plan is to give my notice at my current flat at the end of August, which would give me until the end of November to find somewhere - a good time to look, not too close to xmas and after all the students have moved into their places.

Cold only slightly better today!

Well, I got back from London a few days ago and I'm in the middle of a terrible cold (which started the day after I got back from Devon). On top of that, I've got a dodgy stomach, so I'm reduced to eating soup and brown bread :-(

We had a GREAT time!! To everyone I had a chance to hook up with - thanks for making our stay in London brilliant. I'm not sure whether the big difference between this trip to London and previous trips was having Lotta with me, or whether I'm starting to get over the trauma of having lived there and am more relaxed because I know I'll be going home again (I suspect the first), but whatever the case we had a fun holiday.

Devon was fantastic as well - Lotta says I hardly stopped talking the whole time we were there, pointing out old haunts, recounting childhood tales and generally enthusing about everything. I have to say that the area has hardly changed - if anything it looks more beautiful than ever. We saw more places than I had hoped and visited some areas that I haven't seen for as long as 18 years! A real memory jogger :-)

I'll get some pics up of the trip as soon as I get a chance - it'll prolly take about a month with developing times and all. At least I can get my pics scanned at source and delivered on CD these days. Speaking of which, Roskilde pics arrived the other day, so I'll get those up on the Bastardos site before too long. I'll link when it's done.

Aaron's birthday was fantastic, although the restaurant Serastro's had unusually bad service which spoilt the beginning of the meal. We followed it up with a long night at Slimelight. Much fun.

Apart from that, we spent an afternoon at the Tate Modern, which is a fantastic collection, though we felt it was lacking in some areas where Louisiana is strong - for instance the galleries are all very similar dimensions, where at Louisiana there is a lot of variety in presentation etc. However, for the size, it was easy to get around and there are some fantastic pieces in there. Worth a visit if you're in London - especially as it's free entry!

Finally, my grandma's 80th birthday was a real success - if somewhat tiring! It was a real pleasure to see so many of the family in one place again - the last time I saw so many of my relatives was probably when I was 13 at my great grandma's funeral! I surprised myself with how much of the family I remembered, even if my memory did need jogging at times :-) My dad did a fantastic job of laying on the party - even if it was a bit of a rush for us all to get everything laid out in time before the guests arrived.

Well, the journey is over now and I'm back at work, where I feel as though I'm recovering after the hectic last week :-) I'm now looking forward to getting stuck in to the construction of our new web site. I do like a project to sink my teeth into.

I'll catch you all later.

Off to London tomorrow. Starting to really look forward to it now :-) Some planned highlights - we'll be eating at Sarostros for Aaron's birthday, which should be excellent fun - dress code is high gothic / outrageous and we'll be a fairly large group. The trip to Devon is planned properly now as well.

I've also found the pinball table of my dreams. Some chap in Sweden has it in an auction, which finishes in September - which should give me about enough time to rustle up the necessary pennies. I've been in touch with him and expressed my interest, so I now just need to keep my fingers crossed that nobody else puts in too high a bid for it during the auction time. Oh - and the table itself? It's a Dr Dude from Bally - you can read up on it here.

Had a lovely evening out with Lotta yesterday. We ate at a steak house, which unfortunately wasn't as good as the last time I was there, but comes highly recommended anyway! I reek of garlic today :-)

This magazine are doing an interview with me about WapWarp and my thoughts on WAP generally. Exciting stuff!

London in a couple of days time...

Rainy Monday :-) Still, I'm not worried. It's looking like being a relatively quiet week.

High drama afoot in the Jennicam camp -
Jenni in love
Courtney in pain
Ana confused

Had a good weekend - amongst other things, I got a web based sub/unsubscribe function onto the Wap-Dev site.

Oooh oooh! I think I'm going to be buying a pinball table at last! It won't be for a month or two yet, but I've found several places in Göteborg that sell them. For less than 500 squid I should be able to pick myself up something fun for the spare room :-) I'll let you know nearer to the time - but it's a lifetime's dream come true!

The official statement from the Roskilde festival management has just been released. It expresses very well the way that I percieved their handling of the situation. It doesn't however make up in any way for the terrible experience of the last night. I guess I still haven't written that up properly and I'm not sure whether I want to or not now :-(

Still undecided as to whether I'll be there next year.

Tux is sitting near my desk looking mean and moody :-) I'm working on a Requirements specification for our new website (which is kinda fun in a tedious "must cross all t's and dot all i's" kinda way!) and listening to some deep synth compilation.

Discovered the website for the best new band I saw at Roskilde. Believe it or not, a Siberian rock band called Yat-Kha, who with any luck, Lotta will see at the Falun Folk Festival either today or tomorrow. Check out www.yat-kha.com for something truly original. The lead singer Albert Kuvezin is a master of kanzat throat singing, in which he can reach an astonishing low bass rumble and a high-pitched note at the same time. I could hardly believe what I was hearing when I saw them live - it sounds like the sort of noise that only a synthesiser could make, but it's genuinely performed with the voice. A must see if you ever get a chance! (They'll be at the Hitchin festival in the UK 15-Jul-00 Sat and in London on the 29th July. Damn - I've just noticed that I'll also be in London than, but it's my Grandma's 80th birthday - the whole reason I'm even going to London. Buggerit!)

Damn, just lost an entire Blog entry by resizing the frameset for entry within Netscape :-( I'll see if I can remember it all again.

Things are looking up! Tux the penguin and my fridge code arrived yesterday. Only took 3 weeks with airmail from the US! Fridge code is cool, but less cool than I expected - it's not really code, more nerdy words. You can't actually create programs on your fridge :-( Perhaps I should make a REAL code set with reserved words from Perl, Java, VB etc plus lots of punctuation and a bunch of more "fun" variable names etc. Hmmm!

Lotta and I were out at a friend's birthday party last night, which was jolly pleasant. He's off to the Arvika festival next weekend, so Lota made him a pot of "flowers" containing lots of useful camping stuff such as wet-wipes, earplugs, condoms and the flowers were made from tent pegs and silver paper. It was most excellent! He lives in an old apartment in the area of town I would most trample over people's dead bodies to live in. Coincidentally, he's planning to probably move to London before the end of the year and I'm hoping that I will be first in line to take over his apartment while he's away. Of course, it would be a great shame to lose a good friend to London - but it is a great apartment :-)

On the subject of London, tickets are now definitely booked and Lotta and I have decided that we'll be heading down to Devon for a few days as well. Both to visit my Nan who's in a home down there (bless her) and to get a chance to show Lotta some of my old stomping grounds. That's cheered me up no end and I'm now starting to look forward to the visit.

Anyhoo, I'd best get off and do something more constructive with my day .-)
